WHAT WE DO

Gift Certificate Printing

Gift certificate and gift card printing

A gift certificate is a promise to pay printed on card. It has to look valuable enough that someone is happy to give it, and be controlled enough that you can tell a real one from a photocopy when it comes back across the counter.

We print gift certificates and gift cards with sequential numbering, security finishing and matching presentation envelopes or sleeves.

Control and security

Every certificate should carry a unique sequential number, generated from a data file and printed in the same pass through variable data printing. That is what lets you log what was issued, track what has been redeemed, and spot a number that was never sold.

Beyond numbering, the practical deterrents are the ones a copier cannot reproduce: foil stamping, metallic and specialty inks, heavy or unusual stock, embossing, and a die cut shape. How far to go tracks the face value, and a certificate worth two hundred dollars justifies more than one worth ten.

What to print on it

  • The value, or a space to write it if values vary
  • A unique serial number, on both the certificate and any stub
  • Expiry terms, where your jurisdiction allows them
  • Where it can be redeemed, which matters for multi-location businesses
  • Space for a personal message, because it is a gift and it will be given by hand

Presentation

A certificate handed over loose feels like a receipt. A matching sleeve, folder or small envelope costs very little and changes the moment of giving entirely, which is the whole point of the product.

For restaurants these usually run alongside menus and table tents so the branding matches across the room.

Gift certificate questions

Should gift certificates be numbered?

Yes. A unique sequential number is what lets you log what was issued, reconcile what has been redeemed, and identify a number that was never sold. It costs nothing extra per piece once it is set up.

What stops someone photocopying a gift certificate?

The features a copier cannot reproduce: foil stamping, metallic and specialty inks, embossing, heavy or unusual stock, and die cut shapes. Numbering catches duplicates after the fact; these stop the attempt.

Can we write in our own values?

Yes. Many businesses print a blank value field and write it in at the point of sale, which avoids holding stock in fixed denominations. Alternatively fixed values can be printed and varied within one run.

Do you print matching envelopes or sleeves?

Yes. A certificate handed over loose feels like a receipt, and a matching sleeve, folder or small envelope costs very little while changing the moment of giving entirely.

Can certificates be redeemed across multiple locations?

That is a policy decision, but the certificate should state it clearly. Where locations differ, the redemption details can change from piece to piece within one print run.

What is the minimum order?

Digital printing has effectively no minimum, so a single restaurant or salon can order a sensible quantity rather than thousands. Numbering does not change that.
