WHAT WE DO

Large Format Printing

Large format printing covers anything too big for a standard press sheet: vinyl banners, yard signs, trade show graphics, point-of-purchase displays and window or wall graphics. It runs on wide roll and flatbed equipment, with inks and substrates chosen for where the piece will live and how long it has to survive there.

MPress prints, finishes and mounts all of it at our New Orleans plant, alongside the commercial print that goes with it, so an event package can be one job instead of three suppliers. Request a quote, upload a file, or call (504) 524-8248.

What else we print wide format

Vinyl Banners

Two Black Friday Sale vinyl banners, one red and one black, finished with grommets

Printed on heavy scrim vinyl with UV stable ink, then finished the way it will actually be hung. Hems double the material at the edge so the banner does not fray, grommets take rope or zip ties, and pole pockets slide over a rail for a cleaner look with no visible hardware.

Mounting is decided before we print, not after, because every finishing option changes the final trim size. A banner ordered at eight feet with a four inch pole pocket is not an eight foot print.

Wind is the other thing people forget. A solid banner on an exposed fence acts like a sail, so for outdoor spans we will usually recommend wind slits or mesh material instead of heavier vinyl.

Yard Signs and Rigid Signage

Give NOLA Day yard sign printed with a website address, staked on a street verge

Printed to corrugated plastic, PVC or aluminium composite rather than fabric, for signage that has to stand on its own and take weather. Cheap per unit, fast to produce and genuinely effective for campaigns, events, real estate and service businesses working a neighbourhood.

Corrugated plastic is the workhorse: light, weatherproof, and cheap enough to treat as disposable after a campaign. PVC and composite panels cost more and last years rather than months, which is what you want for a sign that is part of a building.

Design for the distance. A yard sign is read from a moving car in about two seconds, so it needs one message, a large weight of type and hard contrast. Cramming a service list onto it wastes the sign.

Die Cut Shapes and Seasonal Pieces

Graduate in cap and gown standing beside a die cut 2023 graduation yard sign

Contour cut signage in any outline you can draw, from graduation announcements and photo cutouts to retail shapes and seasonal installs. A shape reads as bespoke in a way a rectangle never does, which is why it earns attention on a lawn or a shop floor.

The cut path is set in prepress as a separate vector layer, so artwork needs to be built with that in mind and with bleed carried past the cut line. If it is not, you get a white sliver on the edge where the blade wandered.

The cutting side of this is explained in full in our guide to what die cutting is.

Event, Trade Show and Convention Graphics

Die cut Mardi Gras decorations arching over a balcony railing above an MPress yard sign

Backdrops, retractable banner stands, table throws and hanging signage, produced from the same plant that prints the collateral going into the delegate bag. New Orleans runs on conventions and on season, and both are unforgiving about dates.

Retractable stands are the most reused piece in a trade show kit because the graphic can be replaced without buying new hardware. Table throws print dye sublimation so the colour is in the fabric rather than sitting on top of it, which is what lets them be washed and folded repeatedly.

For the wider event package see convention printing.

Choosing the right material

Indoor or outdoor decides the substrate first

Outdoor pieces need UV stable ink and a material that tolerates weather and wind. Indoor pieces can use lighter stock and finishes that would not survive a Gulf Coast summer.

How long does it need to last

A weekend event and a twelve month installation are different specifications. Telling us the lifespan up front is usually what stops a piece being over or under specified.

How will it be mounted

Grommets, pole pockets, hems, stands, and frames all change the finished size, so mounting is decided before we print rather than after.

Viewing distance drives resolution

A banner read from across a parking lot does not need the resolution of a display someone stands in front of. This is where large format budgets are most often overspent.

Tell us the quantity, size, stock and deadline and we will quote it. Request a quote or call (504) 524-8248.

Large format printing questions

What is large format printing?

Large format printing produces pieces too big for a standard press sheet, such as banners, yard signs, trade show graphics, and window or wall displays. It uses wide roll or flatbed equipment and inks chosen for the material and the environment the piece will live in.

What is the difference between large format and wide format?

In practice they mean the same thing and the terms are used interchangeably. Both describe printing at sizes beyond a conventional press sheet.

How long do outdoor banners last?

It depends on the material, the ink, and the mounting. A vinyl banner specified for outdoor use with UV stable ink will hold up through a season of weather, while a piece specified for indoor use will fade and fray quickly outside. Tell us where it is going and how long it needs to survive.

Can you print a banner with grommets and hems?

Yes. Hemming, grommets, pole pockets, and reinforced edges are finishing options, and they change the final trim size, so we set them before printing rather than after.

What file do you need for a large format piece?

Vector artwork or a high resolution raster file scaled to the finished size. Because viewing distance affects the resolution required, a file that looks low resolution on screen is often fine for a banner. Upload what you have and our prepress team will tell you.

Do you produce trade show and convention graphics?

Yes. Backdrops, retractable banners, table throws, and hanging signage are routine work for us, and we can produce them alongside the printed collateral for the same event.
